1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Dmitrii Golovin, the developer of SLReader (“we”), about using the SLReader app and the sl-reader.app website. By installing or using the app you accept them.

If you downloaded SLReader from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; if from Google Play, the Google Play terms do. How we handle data is described in the privacy policy.

2. What SLReader is

An app for reading in a foreign language: tap-to-translate for words, expressions and paragraphs, word cards, word swap, a catalogue of stories and classics, reading your own files, and a list of the words you looked up with a way to review them.

3. Translations are made by AI

Translations, word cards and word swap are produced by artificial intelligence models. They are usually accurate, but they can make mistakes, miss shades of meaning or make things up. SLReader is a tool for learning a language. Do not rely on its translations where a mistake could be costly: in medical, legal, financial or other important matters.

4. The free limit and your own key

Translations are free within a daily limit that resets once a day. We may change the size of the limit and the set of free features.

You can add your own OpenAI key. Requests are then billed to your account at OpenAI’s prices, and you are responsible for keeping the key safe and for following OpenAI’s terms.

If SLReader introduces paid features or a subscription, their price and terms will be shown before you buy. Payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds go through the App Store or Google Play under their rules. You can cancel a subscription in your store account settings.

6. Your books

Open in SLReader only files you have the right to use. You keep all rights to them. Books are stored on your device; only the fragments you send for translation reach our server.

7. Our content

The app, its design, the catalogue’s stories, covers, descriptions and word cards belong to us or are used under licence. The texts of the classic works are in the public domain. You may use SLReader’s content for personal reading and study, but not copy, distribute or sell it.

8. What you may not do

If these rules are broken, we may limit or block a device’s access to translations.

9. The service as is

We work to keep SLReader running smoothly, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features, or stop the service. We will try to warn you about significant changes in advance.

Keep copies of your files: data on the device can be lost, for example when the app is deleted.

10. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost profits, or the consequences of translation errors. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The new version will appear on this page with a new date, and we will tell you about significant changes in the app. If you keep using SLReader after a change, you accept it.

12. Contact

Questions and complaints go to support@sl-reader.app, or use Settings → About → Report a problem in the app.
